Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) will open the 2014 national art fair and festival circuit with new dates of 24-27 July.
Queensland's Arts Minister Ian Walker said national and international Indigenous and contemporary art collectors and galleries travelled around Australia each year for a series of major art fairs and traditionally ended this tour with CIAF in mid-August.
"Next year we are presenting CIAF before competing art fairs, so dedicated art collectors and dealers arrive in Cairns with fresh eyes and enthusiasm for the exciting contemporary and traditional art works of Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists," he said.
"This new date also allows us to engage with interstate and overseas visitors during the peak-tourism season of Far North Queensland, and we are working closely with our Cairns partners to build the city's destination and events profile during the beautiful tropical winter.
"Now is the time for Indigenous art centres, artists, exhibitors, partners and supporters to make contact with CIAF so we can start planning a bigger and better return for this much-loved event."
The Queensland Government remains committed to the success of CIAF with $1.568 million (excluding GST) allocated in 2013 14 and 2014 15 for the event. Contact us today to register.
