Indigenous artists from remote communities weave ghost nets, creating works of art from cast-off fishing nets collected from the waters and beaches of Cape York and the Torres Strait. The collection of these marine-life threatening nets is assisted by Indigenous ranger groups who work in alliance with GhostNets Australia. Since the program's inception in 2004, Indigenous rangers have removed more than 10 000 nets from Australia's northern coastline.

Sit under the shade of magnificent trees at CIAF with the ghost net weavers. Learn about the craft that, under nimble fingers, transforms potentially destructive environmental waste material into beautiful objects. Create your own ghost net piece to take home!
