Big Sculpture Showcase

Big Sculpture Showcase project fosters the creation of exquisite large-scale sculptures by key Queensland Indigenous artists

With funding from the Queensland Government, under the Spaces and Places program, Big Sculpture Showcase aims to culturally activate and enliven the Cairns Convention Centre’s (which is the home of CIAF 2022 — Masters of Country) newly-refurbished surroundings and Queensland’s Indigenous creative industries.

The project, steered by CIAF's Artistic Director, Janina Harding, Curatorial Associate, Teho Ropeyarn, and Exhibitions Manager, India Collins (with Queensland Indigenous artist, Tony Albert), fosters the transition into 'big' sculpture by 16 Queensland Indigenous artists—for many, their first foray into sculptural practice.

From 6-10 July, 2022 the Big Sculpture Showcase will feature the following participating artists:

  • Alma Norman + Marlene Norman
  • Brian Robinson
  • Dr. David Jones
  • Delissa Walker
  • Francoise Lane
  • Girringun Art Centre: Daniel Beeron, Jean Thaiday, Nancy Beeron, Nephi Denham, Phillip Denham, and Theresa Beeron

  • Mavis Benjamin + Alma Norman + Marlene Norman
