CIAF launches Big Sculpture Showcase

Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) are now accepting Expressions of Interests for our new commissioning project: Big Sculpture Showcase.
The Big Sculpture Showcase is a new initiative of CIAF, designed to activate non-exhibition spaces at our new home in 2022, the Cairns Convention Centre.
For 12 years, CIAF has fostered an ethical Indigenous art sector stemming from Tropical North Queensland. CIAF continues to promote the vibrant Queensland Indigenous art movement; one which celebrates traditional and contemporary approaches to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art and cultural expressions, stories, design elements, motifs, symbolism, and imagery that is unique to Queensland.
CIAF's Artistic Director, Janina Harding, Curatorial Associate, Teho Ropeyarn, and Exhibitions Manager, India Collins - along with celebrated Queensland Indigenous artist, Tony Albert, will travel around Queensland to create tangible opportunities for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander artists and arts workers, by visiting Queensland's Indigenous art centres and meeting with independent artists. It's anticipated that a touring exhibition will be developed from this showcase, subject to funding. Works will need to be made available if in the event the touring takes places beyond 2022.
If you are (or if someone you know is) interested in being part of the project, download the Overview and Expression of Interest forms (see left).
Big Sculpture Showcase is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland as part of the Arts and Cultural Recovery Package – Spaces and Places.
