Celebrating a decade of service
2 April 2020
This week Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’s longest serving staff member, Wanda Weatherall notched up a decade of service to the organisation now regarded Australia’s premier art fair and Queensland’s quintessential showcase of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and culture.
CIAF’s Artistic Director Janina Harding praised Wanda for her commitment to CIAF and long service and said it was sad the team could not celebrate her dedication in person during this period of social distancing and working from home.
“Wanda is the heart and soul of our CIAF team, and we are all very much looking forward to recognising her achievements in the not too distant future,” Ms Harding said.
Wanda started in her role as CIAF’s administration officer on April 1 2010 – almost a year after the inaugural event was held at Tanks Arts Centre in 2009.
According to Wanda, the thing about CIAF she looks most forward to is seeing all the new and exciting artworks in a whole range of mediums.
“I also like meeting up with family and friends that I haven't seen for a while and meeting new visitors to Cairns.”
Wanda is a proud Indigenous woman who has an Associate Diploma of Arts (A&TSI Cultural Arts) and before CIAF, worked for seven years in retail for an Indigenous tourism organisation.
