Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) announces two exclusive programs for 2025: CIAF On Country (VIP Program) and CIAF Collectors Program, deepening connections between First Nations curators and collectors with culture and Country.
CIAF’s 2025 festival introduces CIAF On Country and CIAF Collectors programs, offering a tailored cultural experience for art enthusiasts and collectors.
Hosted by contemporary artist Tony Albert, the CIAF On Country Program offers participants a unique opportunity to immerse in Country, culture, and the arts.
The curated itinerary includes exclusive previews of the Art Fair, culinary experiences, artist interactions, and visits to community spaces, fostering a holistic understanding of First Nations cultural expression.
The CIAF Collectors Program serves art collectors and curators, offering insights into Queensland’s vibrant Indigenous art movement, from lino cut prints of Torres Strait Islander artists and ghostnet weaving to milkwood carved ku (camp dogs) of Aurukun and sundrenched colours from Mornington Island, showcasing its distinct diversity.
Led by the respected curator Bruce Johnson McLean, participants will enjoy early access to acquisitions, private exhibition tours, and engaging dialogues with leading and emerging artists.
CIAF Artistic Director Teho Ropeyarn said the new VIP and Collectors programs aim to honour and enhance engagement with Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and traditions.
“These programs provide unparalleled access to First Nations people’s knowledge systems, creativity, and cultural wealth, championing their artistry as essential to Australia and reflecting the organisation’s significance as a destination event for collectors and cultural leaders.
“CIAF is more than an art fair—it’s a movement,” Mr Ropeyarn said.
Participants in both programs will enjoy VIP status during CIAF’s 2025 calendar, themed Pay Attention!, featuring over 600 visual artists and 150 performers from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 July 2025.
With limited places available, registration for the CIAF On Country and Collectors Programs closes on 2 June 2025.
