Applications now open for CIAF's Visiting Journalists Program 2019
This year, to maximise the opportunities that surround Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’s (CIAF) decade anniversary and program, the organisation will host a visiting journalists program. CIAF will invite a limited number of journalists from Australia to its event in Cairns to raise awareness about the importance of this annual event as Queensland’s quintessential celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and arts.
This 3-day event held between 12 and 14 July 2019 is an opportunity for program participants to organise meetings with Queensland’s First Nations’ visual and performing artists, curators, collectors, and more.
This year’s celebration coincides with the UN’s International Year of Indigenous Languages which connects with the Fair’s theme, My Yarn Now. As such the program features events around traditional First Nations’ language and identity, Indigenous languages and culture, Indigenous language and the arts. We are also looking at the strong and growing connection between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and arts and tourism.
We are focusing this year on media professionals who work with mainstream and Indigenous media and/or social media in Australia, including journalists/bloggers/influencers, and encourage women and young professionals to apply.
Through this program, CIAF, with the support of Tourism and Events Queensland will cover the expenses of participating media professionals, including travel, accommodation and event ticketing.
If you are interested, please fill-in the below application form before 30 April 2019.
An internal panel will evaluate your application. We will contact selected participants by the end of May at the latest.
