Leitha Assan

Leitha is a proud Badhu ipikaz (Badu woman) from the Torres Strait. Her experience involves working with communities within the Torres Strait region delivering cultural maintenance programs and projects that sustains, maintains and develops culture, language, art and heritage as well as supporting economic initiatives through them.  Leitha’s work highlights and preserves the diverse and inimitable art, language and education of the Torres Strait, displaying secrets and stories through dynamic and colourful exhibition. 
 
Her passion for language preservation, cultural heritage and arts development and mentoring are highly valued by Indigenous organisations. Leitha’s advocacy has been acknowledged through her appointment as a board member of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the national Advisory Committee for Indigenous Repatriation.
