Deadly Creative Sistas

Deadly Creative Sistas is a new collective of First Nations women artists from South East Queensland committed to creating accessible pathways for mob to explore and expand into fashion. Each member brings a distinct artistic practice: Desert-Rain Magpie (Noongar) works across textiles and printmaking with a focus on botanical storytelling; Sarah Zalewski (Migunberri) explores materiality through sculpture and installation; Belinda Fraser (Warrabul) draws on painting and fibre art to honour ancestral narratives; and Melissa Stannard (Yuwaalaraay/Gamilaroi) contributes a jewellery line informed by her renowned metal and natural material practice.

All members are current students or Alumni of the Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art degree at Griffith University, Southbank, grounding the collective in shared learning and community. For this project they have engaged Tiffany Beckwith-Skinner, celebrated for her costume making, styling and work with other First Nations creatives, to guide the technical and design processes required to bring the collection to life.
