About
Established in 2008, the Girringun Art Centre in Cardwell, Queensland, supports a vibrant community of multi-award-winning Aboriginal artists. The centre represents artists from nine Traditional Owner groups: the Nywaigi, Gugu Badhan, Warrgamay, Warungnu, Bandjin, Girramay, Gulngay, Jirrbal and Djiru peoples. Together, their traditional lands span around 25,000 square kilometres across far-North Queensland’s rainforest and coastal country.
The Girringun Art Centre is a living, working art centre where artists regularly gather to share knowledge and create artworks reflecting their cultural stories, landscapes and ancestral connections. They express these through various art mediums including weaving, printmaking, painting, ceramics, textiles and traditional object making.
Through their work, Girringun artists celebrate and preserve the distinctive Aboriginal rainforest art traditions of the region, sharing their culture, identity and deep connection to Country with audiences across Australia and around the world.
