About
Strait Yarns, founded by Torres Strait Islander artist Kerry Lui, celebrates cultural strength, healing, and connection through weaving, wearable art, and storytelling. Each handcrafted piece—whether a woven earring, wearable art, or textile—embodies the stories of women, family, and Country. Through Strait Yarns, Kerry empowers women to reconnect with culture, find healing in creativity, and share their voices through art. Her workshops and community programs provide safe, nurturing spaces where women come together to learn traditional practices, express identity, and build confidence. Rooted in the theme of Reclamation and Regeneration, Kerry’s work honours the resilience of Torres Strait and North Queensland First Nations women—reviving ancestral knowledge while inspiring new generations to create, heal, and lead through culture.
