MUSIC AT THE TANKS: BARKAA + SIMONE STACEY & NO SHAME IN OUR GAME
Australia's rap sensation BARKAA is set to ignite the Tanks stage as the headliner Cairns Indigenous Art Fair's Saturday night concert alongside local artist Simone Stacey and six young voices from the city’s No Shame in My Game music development program.

Tickets are now on sale for BARKAA and Simone Stacey's upcoming momentous event, which will be held on Saturday, 27 July, at Tanks Arts Centre, presented by CIAF in partnership with WOW Australia.
CIAF Artistic Director Francoise Lane said audiences can expect powerful and unapologetic BLAK narratives from some of our most talented young female performers across hip-hop, DJing, and vocals.
Since arriving on Australia’s hip-hop music scene in 2020, BARKAA has galvanised audiences and the industry with her powerful storytelling voice that balances unbridled passion with a raw, authentic style. Delving deeply into themes of Indigenous identity and social justice, her music sheds light on a lived experience encountering systemic racism, cultural heritage, and the struggle of Indigenous communities. Using the stage to amplify marginalised voices and promote positive change, BARKAA’s music is a call to action for awareness and solidarity.
Simone Stacey, whose ascent to fame in the early noughties as one-half of Shakaya and chart-topping hit, Stop Calling Me, is excited to return to the stage next month alongside six young voices from her No Shame in My Game music program.
Drawing on her experience as an artist and a youth coordinator, Simone Stacey created No Shame in My Game to give young people a chance to find solace and healing through music.
According to Simone Stacey, the program uses narrative therapy practices to support self-expression. It is particularly effective for young people who have been impacted by trauma, entrenched in the criminal justice system or have been diagnosed with a disability.
“No Shame in My Game is my way of giving back to the community and helping others. It is a safe and supportive space for people to process what they have been through, connect with their emotions and freely express themselves through song,” Simone Stacey said.
No Shame in My Game is a program of Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good, a youth-led, non-profit organisation empowered by volunteers and donations.
