CIAF 2023 Opening Night was an awe-inspiring celebration to launch this year's event.
Nearly 2000 people joined in the celebrations at the Cairns Convention Centre to experience the first look at the Art Fair and Art Market, as well as dance and music performances.
Three major Art Awards were also announced last night:
- Aurukun artist Janet Koongotema is the winner of CIAF’s pinnacle Art Award for 2023, the Premier’s Award for Excellence
- Pormpuraaw Art and Culture Centre's cohesive body of work resonated with judges to win the coveted Art Centre Award for the second time.
- Independent artist Darren Blackman’s work secured Innovation Award for pushing boundaries and weaving together traditional and contemporary methodologies.
