Cairns-based Artist and Designer, Francoise Lane, joins Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF)

FL BC

In 2022, renowned artist, business woman, curator, and designer, Francoise Lane, has joined the CIAF team as the fourth Artistic Director to steer the creative vision of CIAF. Over the years, she has been involved in the curation of a number of exhibitions as part of CIAF programming.

A Torres Strait Islander woman whose maternal family are from Kerriri (Hammond Island), Francoise identifies as both Meriam and Kaurareg. Inspired by her family, Kerriri and the natural reef and rainforest landscapes of her tropical North Queensland home, Francoise is a multi-disciplinary creative whose practise spans textile design, visual and surface pattern art, and sculpture.  Added to this, Francoise and her husband Andrew Lane established Indij Design in 2011—a 100 percent Indigenous owned, award-winning architectural and design company.

Well-known across the Indigenous Art sector and much-loved within the local Cairns/Tropical North Queensland art scene, Francoise Lane will build of the reputation of CIAF and bring new elements to the programming of our annual series of events, as well as adding her own unique influence.
